COVID 19 and Home Church

The following text is from a journal entry I wrote on March 15, 2020.

This week has been interesting. On Saturday, March 7, we did Ashton's Eagle project. He installed a weather station at Pebble Creek Elementary School. We built a structure to hold a sign and mailbox. We mounted a rain gauge and weather vane on the posts. That was the start of our spring break.

The COVID-19 strain of the coronavirus has been spreading around the world for the last several weeks. on Tuesday (March 10), TAMU announced that 2 days of school after spring break were to be suspended. Then, on Thursday (March 12), the university revised this to include suspending classes for the entire week after spring break AND beginning on March 23, all courses will be delivered online. As part of my work responsibilities, I will be involved with several training workshops this coming week to assist my colleagues in preparing to deliver their courses online.

College Station Independent School District (ISD) also announced on Thursday (March 12) that the kids would not be going back to school next week (they extended spring break by one week). Ashton participated in a track meet on Friday (March 13). However, during the day on Friday, all UIL (athletics and academics) events were canceled until May.

On Thursday (March 12), the Church announced no church meeting world wide. Then, on Friday (March 13), the Church announced all temples around the world are closed for proxy ordinances. We do not have a time frame for when we will return to regular meetings in the meeting houses and temples.

On Thursday, I was discussing all of the closures due to COVID-19 with my siblings in our Marco Polo group chat. Kris and Keri suggested that we have an extended family "home church" meeting. I volunteered to set up a Zoom meeting for us to use to connect everyone. Kelly and Cade said they would join. Dad called for a family meeting on March 15 at noon (Texas time).

It turned out that Alan Jensen (High Councilor in his stake), Cassie Pluhar, and Connor Pluhar had all be scheduled to speak in their respective wards for March 15. So, Dad invited them to speak to the "Jasperson Family Home Church" meeting instead.

We had a fantastic meeting. Thirty members of the extended family joined the meeting from 12 different locations (see the table below).
