When Annette and I got married, her grandparents (Wayne and Betty Simmons) were not able to attend the wedding or reception. Later that year, Grandpa and Grandma came to Salt Lake to visit other relatives. They invited us to meet them at the Jordan River Utah Temple to do an endowment session.
I had never met them, and Annette had not seen them for a couple of years. So, we were excited to go to the temple with them. At the time, they were both temple workers in the Portland Oregon Temple.
We met them in the parking lot of the temple and went inside. After we got into the session room but before the session started, Grandp Simmons leaned over to me and said, "The new name is ______. Right?" I was surprised. I thought you were not supposed to talk about the new name. I did not know what to do, so I just nodded and said, "Yes, that is right."
