Writing Practice

The house I grew up in had a chalkboard on the wall. It was about 6 or 7 feet wide and 4 feet high. At the time of this story, the chalkboard was on the wall in the hall from the kitchen to the bedrooms between the sewing room door and the bathroom door. After Mom and Dad remodeled the house to make the larger combined kitchen, dining room, and living room space, the chalkboard was on the wall in the bedroom at the end of the hall (Keri's bedroom).

One thing I liked to do on the chalkboard was practice my writing. We had a silver step stool. I would take the step stool down the hall to the chalkboard. Then, I would get an issue of Reader's Digest. I would open a page of Reader's Digest and copy the words from the page to the chalkboard until I filled the entire chalkboard. Then I would erase the board and do it again.

I do not remember exactly how old I was. It was before I really learned how to read well. So, I must have been in kindergarten or first grade.
