Fröhlich Sei das Morganessen

When I was a missionary, I met a family that had a short saying they used after they said the prayer at dinner before they started eating. I thought this saying was catchy. So, when Annette and I got married, we started a family tradition to use this saying.

After we pray but before we start eating, we hold hands around the table and repeat the saying while raising and lowering our hands in rhythm with the saying.

The German saying is "Fröhlich sei das Morganessen. guten Appetit." Roughly translated, this means, "May the morning meal be pleasant, enjoy your meal."

Morganessen is the morning meal or breakfast. We change "Morganessen" to "Mittagessen" for "midday meal" or lunch, and we change it to "Abendessen" for "evening meal" or dinner.
