This week’s memory comes from my wedding day. I have written before about taking pictures on our wedding day and getting lost in the temple on our wedding day. The events in this story occurred after we were lost in the temple and then found, after our sealing in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple, but before taking pictures.
After the sealing, Annette and I returned to the temple locker rooms to get dressed for pictures. I had an all-white tuxedo with tails to wear, and Annette had her wedding dress.
After putting on my tuxedo, I was standing in the men’s locker room area talking with a temple worker who was coordinating with the bride’s room so that Annette and I could exit at the same time. I remember feeling nervous, excited, happy, and very much in love, all at once. I was 22. Annette was 19.
There was another groom in the room with me who had just put on his tuxedo as well. The temple worker turned to him and asked if he was ready to go out. He said yes.
A moment later, the temple worker asked if he was ready to go outside for pictures. He said yes again.
Then the temple worker paused and asked, very calmly, if he was sure he was ready.
By this point, the groom was clearly annoyed at being asked the same question three times in a row. He answered yes once more.
That is when the temple worker said, “Do you not want to zip up your pants first?”
The groom looked down, immediately embarrassed, and quickly zipped up his pants.
The temple worker smiled and said, “Now I think you are ready to go out.”
An additional fun part of this story is a video of the two of us just after we exited the temple and were greeted by our family. The person taking the video was not close enough to capture the words I was saying, but you can clearly see me telling the story to my brother Kelly and miming zipping up my own pants at that point.
