Allyn was born on April 11, 1997, while we lived in Tallahassee Florida. That same year, Annette's sister, Christina, was a freshman at BYU. We asked Chrissy if she would come to stay with us for one week after the semester at BYU ended to help us adjust to having three kids. Chrissy came from April 25 to May 3.
One day while Chrissy was visiting us, we decided to visit the beach. We drove south from Tallahassee to Alligator Point. We had to borrow a van from some friends at church so that we had a vehicle big enough for the three kids, Chrissy, Annette, and me.
After we arrived at Alligator Point, we carried Allyn in the car seat to the beach. We set out a blanket and used an umbrella to keep her in the shade so that she would not get sunburned.
We had a fun time at the beach. Jamie and Tanner collected a few shells. We caught a couple of hermit crabs and played with them. We waded in the water. We had a picnic Chrissy laid on a towel to tan.
After a few hours at the beach, we packed up our stuff to return to the car.
Everyone had something to carry. I carried Allyn in the car seat. I was wearing flip flops. We walked all the way from the beach to the parked car. Then we looked down at Allyn. She was covered with sand.
It turned out that as I walked, the heel of my flip flop flipped sand up with each step. The sand would fly from the flip flop heel right onto Allyn. 🙁
After all our efforts to keep the new baby (Allyn was just over two weeks old) safe, she was covered with sand. We took her out of the car seat to brush off the sand. However, she was hot and sweaty from the hot, humid Florida beach air. So, despite our best efforts to brush off the sand, the sand was stuck to her body.
