Family Devotional

We have a family devotional every morning. We get the whole family up and gather in a circle. We sing a "practice song" and recite a scripture. Then, we read in the Book of Mormon. Each week in family home evening, we pick the new practice song for the week and a new scripture to learn for the upcoming week.

Annette and I started this family tradition when we lived in Florida. Thus, Jamie was about 3 years old and Tanner was about 1 year old. I know some of the early "practice" songs included the 13 Articles of Faith.

Over the years, we have made a few modifications to what we read in the Book of Mormon. At times, we read one verse each. At times, we read one chapter. At times, we have read from the scripture readers instead of the actual Book of Mormon. At times, we read as many as five pages. However, the most consistent approach has been to read 1 page each day. With this "slow and steady" approach, we have read the Book of Mormon together as a family 13 times. We use a copy of the Triple Combination that I had when I was a teenager to record the date and location every time we finish reading the Book of Mormon.

Dates/Times we finished reading
The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ
At the beginning of 2019, we decided to create a poster version of the scripture we are learning for the week and post it on the all in the loft.
