On my first night at BYU in the Fall of 1989, after I unpacked my things in Broadbent Hall, I came to find you in your dorm. You and your roommates were getting ready to hike to the “Y” with your Y-Group. You invited me to go with you. Your roommates did not know that we went to high school together and were “shocked” to see us holding hands while we hiked to the “Y” because they thought you had just met me.
I remember you had an early morning class (or maybe practice for Cougarettes) at the same time I had a math class. I would wait outside to catch you walking back from the field house after your class to walk with you back to your dorm.
I remember many walks around Provo. We walked to the Provo temple a few times and sat on the grassy hill on the east side of the temple while we talked. By then, I knew more than ever that you were “the one” for me. But every time I tried to bring up the subject of marriage, you put me off by telling me how you wanted to finish at BYU, go on a mission, and then get married. I knew I could not possibly wait that long.
