On the evening of August 16, 1994, we packed our remaining possessions into the Probe (suitcases, plants, diapers, Baby Tenda, car seats, and children). We went to Dave and Liesl’s reception. Near the end of the reception, we got in the car and drove away to Florida to begin graduate school.
We stopped every 3-4 hours so we could feed/change Jamie and you could nurse Tanner (who was only 3 weeks old!). I drove all night. We stopped in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and spent the day with my cousin Danny and his wife Lori. You had never met them before. I slept while you talked to strangers and cared for the kids.
We drove all night again (stopping every few hours to feed the children) to St. Louis, Missouri. We stopped at Robert Hokanson’s parents’ (Paul and Julina Hokanson) home. Again, I slept while you entertained and cared for the kids. Then we continued to Tallahassee. We finally arrived at our new apartment with $12 and 7-10 days until we got more money from scholarships and student loans.
Whew!
What a trip!
