When I was a young man, there was a sawmill and lumber yard in Afton, Wyoming. It had various owners over time, but at one point, I think it was called "Star Studs." The lumber yard was located on the north end of Afton.
I have a few vague memories of this business. I remember seeing the logging trucks hauling trees on the highway to the mill. I remember going to the mill with Dad on at least one occasion when he left Cade and me in the car (or maybe truck) while he went inside the building. Cade and I watched a loader unloading some of the logs from the logging trucks and stacking them to dry.
One part of the mill had a structure that looked like a giant metal man (at least in my mind). I am not sure exactly what the structure was. But it had a large exhaust vent that would have white smoke coming out on some days when we drove by. When I was quite young, I once asked dad about this structure. Dad told me it was a cloud machine and that it made clouds.
It was a few years later before I figured out that Dad was pulling my leg with that story!
